Burleigh Develops Telecom Component Analyzer
Burleigh Instruments Inc. of Fishers, N.Y., has demonstrated a test and measurement system for dense wavelength division multiplexing components that is based on its fast Fourier transform Wavemeter optical channel analyzer. The system integrates the Wavemeter module, a 1525- to 1605-nm broadband amplified spontaneous emission source and an optical switch, and can test multiplexers and demultiplexers, fiber Bragg gratings and interference filters.
Burleigh says the technique demonstrates both the accuracy of an optical wavelength meter and the measuring speed of a scanning laser system. The company quotes an accuracy of 1 pm, a resolution of 25 pm and measuring times of 1 s for the instrument, but an optical dynamic range of about 35 dB, which it says is suitable for testing wavelength-selective components.
