Lucent to Supply Optical Networking Systems for Network in Brazil
CAMPINAS, Brazil, Oct. 10 -- Lucent Technologies has signed a $180 million contract to provide optical networking systems for Brazil's Eletronet .
Under the agreement, Lucent will build Eletronet's backbone network, covering the Brazilian states of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Parana, Goias, Tocantins, Maranhao, Piaui, Ceara, and the Federal District of Brasilia.
This is one of the largest contracts for optical equipment in Latin America and we are very proud to have been selected by Eletronet to be its technology partnerin such an advanced project, said Renato Furtado, CEO of Lucent Brazil. This contract reinforces Lucent's position as one of the global leaders in optical networking systems and is a major step for our company towards becoming leader in Brazil as well.
Under the terms of the agreement, Lucent will provide project financing.
