Corning, Sycamore Networks Team on Optical Switching
CORNING, N.Y., Oct. 11 -- Corning Inc. has agreed to work with Sycamore Networks to develop new optical switching technologies. Specifically, the companies will work on speeding up optical switch technology with the delivery of three-dimensional microelectromechanical systems for telecommunications networks. The companies will work together to define the system's practicality and test its applications.
By bringing all the needed capabilities together in one corporation, Corning intends to shorten the development cycle and enable rapid scaling into manufacturing, said Mark Newhouse, Corning's division vice president of optical networking devices. We are pleased to be teaming up with an industry mover like Sycamore in order to more rapidly advance these critical technologies.
Sycamore Networks markets and develops optical networking products that transport voice and data traffic over lightwaves.
