JDS Uniphase Eyes Doubling of Shares

WASHINGTON, Oct. 11 -- JDS Uniphase Corp. is requesting the permission of its shareholders to double the company's authorized common stock. If approved the company's stock will go from 3 billion to 6 billion shares. The additional stock could be used to generate revenue to buy property and acquire companies, as well as go toward employee benefits. The proposed stock increase will be voted on at a Dec. 13 shareholders' meeting in San Jose, Calif.
