SDL Has Best Third Quarter to Date
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 24 -- Citing increasing orders for communications products for terrestrial and underwater fiber optic systems, SDL Inc. has posted a record breaking third quarter. SDL, designer and manufacturer of semiconductor lasers, laser-based systems and fiber optic related solutions, reported $146.5 million in revenues and $40.4 million in pro forma net income, or $0.45 per diluted share, for the last three months ended September 30. This quarter's revenue was 208 percent higher than it was for the same 1999 period and 33 percent more than last quarter.
Revenue from fiber optic communications products grew 38 percent since the second quarter and 332 percent since last year's third quarter, which represented a record 90 percent of total revenue. Sequential growth stayed healthy in the terrestrial (up 42 percent) and undersea (up 28 percent) sectors of the fiber optic communications business, the company said.
