ESI Sets up Direct Sales and Service in Korea, Southeast Asia

PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 27 -- Based on the success of its direct sales and service unit in Taiwan Electro Scientific Industries Inc. (ESI), designer and manufacturer of electronic products used in laser manufacturing, has set up similar organizations in Korea and Southeast Asia. Its Korea-based unit, ESI Korea Co. Ltd., will be operational by the beginning of 2001 and ESI Singapore Pte. Ltd. will offer its services by the end of next week, said ESI.
ESI's Taiwan direct sales and services unit, which was established in fiscal year 2000, has helped to boost ESI's Asian revenues 110 percent compared with last year. ESI's Asian revenues accounted for $196 million in fiscal 2000, or 62 percent of ESI's total sales.
