360networks Launches IP Network

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Canada, Nov. 15 -- 360networks, broadband network and co-location service provider to telecommunications organizations, will deploy a global network based on Cisco Systems' multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) technology. This technology will eliminate the need to deploy an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network, said 360networks.
MPLS technology integrates ATM engineering capability with packet networks by tagging IP packets with labels that specify a route and priority. By eliminating the need for routers to perform an address lookup for every packet, MPLS sends packets to their destination with greater efficiency, the company said.
Using this network architecture and technologies, we believe that we will have the lowest cost global IP network, said Stephen Baker, chief technology officer of 360networks.
