Corning, Cisco Join Forces to Boost Optical Networks

CORNING, NY, Nov. 17 -- Corning Inc. has agreed to team up with Cisco Systems Inc. to deliver optical solutions for their service provider customers. Corning will provide optical fiber and photonics products while Cisco will deliver Internet scale optical networking solutions in an effort to speed up the deployment of optical infrastructures.
Optical networking is revolutionizing the Internet and creating unprecedented opportunities that benefit the Internet ecosystem, said Mike Volpi, senior vice president and chief strategy officer at Cisco Systems. Corning's expertise in optical fiber and photonic products, coupled with Cisco's expertise in building IP-based networks is apowerful combination that will enable service providers to deliver rich new services.
