Lucent, Global Crossing Begin Trial of a 40-Gbs Technology

MURRAY HILL, NJ, Nov. 17 -- Lucent Technologies and Global Crossing Ltd. have begun a trial of Lucent's 40G optical technology, which delivers 40 Gb/s of capacity, the company said. The test is being carried out across a 71-km fiber link connecting Brussels and Antwerp, Belgium, a key part of Global Crossing's European network.
Lucent's 40G system is based on time division multiplexing technology (OC-768/STM-256), which transmits voice, video and data, using a single laser over a single wavelength of light.
