Intelligent Optical Systems, Zellweger Analytics USA to Develop Fiber Sensors
TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 5 -- Intelligent Optical Systems Inc. (IOS) has joined with Zellweger Analytics USA, a division of Uster, Switzerland-based Zellweger Luwa AG, to develop low maintenance, auto-calibrated sensors for multipoint detection of carbon monoxide and methane gases.
The development of the technology platform concept will be completed during the second half of 2001, the companies said. Zellweger Analytics will design, manufacture and market fiber optic sensor networks using technology platforms designed by IOS. These networks will be designed to detect toxic gases in various workplace environments, including semiconductor manufacturing, petrochemical processing and chemical manufacturing.
The National Science Foundation is supplying the project with a 50 percent matching fund grant. IOS is a privately held research and development company specializing in the design of optical communications, monitoring and signal processing technologies.
