Lucent to Supply Optical Systemsfor Shandong Telecom's Backbone Networks

BEIJING, Dec. 18 -- Lucent Technologies has landed an $8 million contract to provide optical networking products for Shandon Telecom, a subsidiary of China's largest telecommunications service provider, China Telecom.
Our customers are demanding sophisticated services, such as Internet access, and our network now will be able to accommodate their demands, said Zhang Yongping, deputy director of Shandong Telecom.
Lucent will supply Shandon Telecom with WaveStar TDM 10G, a synchronous digital hierarchy system that uses a single laser to transmit at 10 Gb/s. The TDM 10G can be used as a stand-alone system or feed into a multichannel dense wavelength division multiplexing system.
