Oplink to Supply Corning with Passive Optical Components

Oplink Communications Inc. announced that it has signed a one-year supply agreement with Corning Inc. to provide innovative passive optical components used in state-of-the-art communications networks. The contract has a potential value of $40 million, said Corning. Oplink will supply Corning with optical isolators and tap couplers, used in erbium-doped fiber amplification (EDFA) systems.

"We are excited that Corning has selected Oplink as an important supplier of optical components, " said Fred Fromm, Oplink's president. "Corning's expertise and leadership in optical fiber and photonic products are making next-generation communications networks a reality. This agreement indicates Oplink's continued success in developing innovative products and the capacity to manufacture in volume. This contract further demonstrates Oplink's ability to fulfill our customers' requirements and confirms our status as a one-stop shop."

Oplink's technologies and products enhance the performance of optical transmission systems by reducing optical signal loss and enabling more capacity on fiber optic systems.
