Edmund Selling Scientific Group

BARRINGTON, N.J., Jan 31 -- Edmund Optics Inc. has agreed to sell the assets of Edmund Scientific, the consumer science catalog component of Edmund Optics, to Science Kit & Boreal Laboratories in Tonawanda, N.Y., a division of VWR Scientific Products. The catalog and e-commerce site currently operates under the trade name Scientifics. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The primary optical component supply and manufacturing business of Edmund Optics was not part of the agreement. It will remain with Edmund Optic operating under the name Edmund Industrial Optics.
We are divesting of our Scientifics division, the country's most famous consumer science catalog, because we are seeking to build our industrial division as the world's largest supplier of optical/imaging products to high-tech industries and to capitalize on the success of our global manufacturing initiatives, said Robert Edmund, CEO of Edmund Optics. It was a hard decision to part with a bit of our history, but our whole team is truly excited about where our B-to-B division is taking us.
