Metrologic Buys Adaptive Optics Associates

Under a $19 million stock purchase agreement, Metrologic Instruments Inc. of Blackwood, N.J., has acquired Adaptive Optics Associates Inc. of Cambridge, Mass., from Hartford, Conn.-based United Technologies Corp. Adaptive Optics will retain its name and operate as a wholly owned subsidiary.

Metrologic produces bar-code scanners for retail and commercial applications as well as high-speed industrial scanning and information processing systems. Adaptive Optics designs and manufactures laser vision and delivery systems, and supporting technologies such as the WaveScope Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor.
