Dynegyconnect, Level 3 Ink Dark Fiber Pact

HOUSTON, Feb.5 -- Dynegyconnect L.P., a subsidiary of Dynegy Inc., has signed a network services agreement with Level 3 Communications Inc. under which Level 3 will provide Dynegyconnect with a 16,000-route-mile dark fiber network infrastructure, co-location space and operation and maintenance services in tier 1 and tier 2 cities throughout the US.
This agreement represents another milestone in the development of our communications business and advances our plan to complete our nationwide network build-out by the fourth quarter 2001, said Larry McLernon, executive vice president of Dynegy Inc. and CEO and president of Dynegy Global Communications (DGC), the company's newly established communications segment.
Dynegyconnect, DGC's North American subsidiary, is developing a nationwide optically switched data network that will consist of approximately 20,000 route miles and more than 40 points of presence by this year's fourth quarter. DGC's European subsidiary, Dynegy Europe Communications (DEC), will be formed in the first part of 2001 following the acquisition of iaxis Limited, a privately held, London-based communications company. Upon completion of this purchase, DEC will acquire an 8750-route-mile (14,000-kilometer) fiber optic network and optical equipment and technology deployed at more than 30 strategically positioned co-location, data center and hub sites throughout Europe.
