Billion Dollar Free Space Optics Market Predicted
OYSTER BAY, NY, Feb. 21 -- After languishing for years, free space optical technologies are seen igniting a billion dollar market early in 2003, according to a report from Allied Business Intelligence (ABI).
"A major shift is underway in the free space optical market. While these technologies were used for years in niche applications, they are ready for the delivery of broadband capabilities in mainstream carrier networks," said Andy Fuertes, vice president of communications technologies at ABI and author of the new report, "Free Space Optics: Technologies and Opportunities in the Carrier Class Network."
"Free space optics are expected to provide operators with another tool to deliver the much sought after level of services. Deployments are expected to be concentrated in urban environments to high value customers, a market the technology will share with LMDS. Information on the study can be found at www.alliedworld.com.
