Anvik Corp. announced the appointment of Matsubo Co. (Tokyo, Japan) and Microsys Engineering Co. (Tao Yuan City, Taiwan) as its representatives in the Pacific Rim. The representatives will sell, support and service Anvik's Laser Projection Imaging systems for lithography, via generation and materials processing.
   Jack Jewell, founder of Boulder, Colo.-based Picolight Inc., was awarded the "Best Technical Advance in Optical Communications" award at the Optix 2001 conference in Pasadena, Calif. Jewell was given the award for his work and commercial development of vertical cavity surface emitting lasers.
   Optical chip maker, Opto Speed Holding S.A., officially opened its new corporate headquarters and packaging facility in Mezzovico, Switzerland. Opto Speed also announced the forthcoming opening of Opto Speed Italia Srl, which will be headquartered in Rome and the April 2001 opening of a new manufacturing facility and R&D center in Ruschlikon, which is situated near Zurich.
