Alcatel Picks I-Cube Switch for Optical Gateway Cross-Connect

CAMPBELL, Calif., Feb. 26 -- I-Cube Inc. said that Alcatel has selected its IQX320 Crosspoint Switch to provide sublambda aggregation functions for the new Optinex 1680 Optical Gateway Cross Connect (OGX). Alcatel's 1680 OGX internal switching fabric is comprised of multiple I-Cube IQX320 Crosspoint Switch ICs. The crosspoint architecture connects 320 input/output buffers in one-to-one or one-to-many connections. The very large switch fabric enables manufacturers to design highly expandable cross-connect equipment that can be upgraded to meet future requirements.
As part of the Optinex family of optical devices, Alcatel's 1680 OGX converges optical, cross connect, lightwave and data product functionality, providing a platform with integrated dense wavelength division multiplexing optics while internally grooming in the electrical domain.
