HP Backs Kidger Memorial Scholarship Fund
BELLINGHAM, Wash., March 1 -- In recognition of Michael Kidger's commitment to science and individuals, Hewlett-Packard Laboratories (HPL) will donate a high-end Omnibook laptop & Desk Jet printer to the winner of the annual Michael Kidger Memorial Scholarship over the next five years. The scholarship is awarded to a student of optical design.
Huw Robson, digital media department manager at HPL Europe, commented,
"This kind of work is of great importance to HPL: it is an area of research that is of increasing importance to HP in general as many of HP's products and solutions of the future will stem from the capture and display of digital images in cameras, scanners and electronic books. Optical design is a critical factor in the development of these information appliances." In relation to the award itself, Robson further added, "its great to see such schemes existing and they should be applauded whole heartedly."
Applications for the scholarship can be found at
www.kidger.com and must be completed and returned to SPIE by March 31.
