NTT Deploys Lucent C+L-Band System

NTT Communications of Tokyo has installed a WaveStar OLS 400GL optical networking system from Lucent Technologies Inc. of Murray Hill, N.J. This is the first commercial deployment of the WaveStar system, which transmits signals in both the 1530- to 1562-nm C-band and the 1570- to 1610-nm L-band.

The system takes advantage of NTT's installed dispersion-shifted fiber. The L-band amplifier in WaveStar will enable the company to transmit 40 wavelengths at 10 Gb/s in this range, increasing its network capacity by nearly 16,000 percent.
