Cielo Joins Small Footprint Transponder Group
BROOMFIELD, Colo., March 14 -- Cielo Communications said that it has joined a multisource agreement with Infineon Technologies, JDS Uniphase, Nortel Networks and LightLogic Inc. to develop a small footprint OC-192 optical transponder.
The agreement, which follows common mechanical, electrical and optical specifications, calls for a full drop-in 10 Gb/s solution. The OC-192 transponders will feature a 200-pin connector with a pinout that is functionally compliant with Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) specifications. It will further offer a 50 percent reduction in size over current solutions, making it the smallest 10 Gb/s solution currently available. These devices will provide a serial 10 Gb/s optical data link in high-speed networking equipment such as routers, switches, add/drop multiplexers and digital cross-connects.
