Semi Restates Year End 2000 Worldwide Equipment Market
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 30 – Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), today reported a revised annual worldwide semiconductor equipment sales figure of $47.7 billion in 2000. This is a revision to the results in the "Worldwide Semiconductor Equipment Market Statistics" (SEMS) report and the trade association's press release that appeared in Photonics.com on March 2.
The corrected year-end figure is 87 percent above the $25.5 billion in sales posted in 1999 and is revised from the 90 percent annual growth and $48.4 billion that was reported earlier this month.
The SEMS Report, which is compiled from data submitted by members of SEMI and the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan (SEAJ), includes data for the six major semiconductor producing regions and 21 product categories. The restatement of the cumulative worldwide shipment figure results from a $404 million downward correction to data in the expose and write category and a $302 million downward correction in the sputter equipment category.
