New High-Performance CCD Detector for High-Resolution Spectroscopy
Roper Scientific Inc. has announced the release of the Princeton Instruments Spec-10:2K detection system for high-resolution spectroscopy. This recent addition to the Spec-10 family of CCD detectors features a 2048 x 512-pixel format that offers a large coverage area for a wide range of applications. Low-noise electronics as well as deep thermoelectric (-70 °C) or liquid nitrogen (-120 °C) cooling help guarantee the integrity of the digital data acquired for analysis. The 16-bit system can be configured with a front- or a back-illuminated CCD.
"The Spec-10:2K gives spectroscopists additional flexibility via a dual-output feature that provides the ability to select either high-capacity mode for applications like absorbance spectroscopy, or high-sensitivity mode for applications such as low-light Raman and fluorescence spectroscopy," remarks Bruce True, product manager at Roper Scientific – the company created by the union of Princeton Instruments Inc. and Photometrics Ltd. "The detector also lends itself particularly well to high-resolution atomic spectroscopy such as LIBS."
To ensure extensive control capabilities with the lowest-noise performance even in less-than-optimal environments, the Spec-10:2K is regulated by an EM-shielded detector controller. The Spec-10:2K runs under WinSpec, Roper Scientific's 32-bit Windows software package, and can be coupled with our entire line of high-precision Acton Research spectrometers.
