Telenor Completes Phase 2 Carrier Preselection

LONDON, England, June 1 -- Telenor, Norway's largest telecommunications company, and Telcordia Technologies Inc. announced the successful completion of a project to bring carrier preselection and number portability to fixed subscribers in Norway.

With more than 33 telecommunications service providers now operating in the country, Telenor required a platform that was flexible enough to support large numbers of users and could interwork easily with its existing switching infrastructure. So they decided to go with an Intelligent Network (IN) platform, and awarded Telcordia a contract to develop an Intelligent Network solution based on the Telcordia ISCP software suite.

"After evaluating solutions on the basis of price, performance and capacity -- the last an especially important issue for any preselection and number portability system -- we chose Telcordia as supplier with its ISCP platform," said Svein Hillesund, chief engineer at Telenor Telecom. "Initially, the Telcordia platform will be used for what are essentially nonprofit services. Once we've had time to study how the platform performs in terms of capacity and stability under high traffic loads, we'll consider using the platform to also offer commercial services. So far, we've been pleased with the service creation aspects of the Telcordia ISCP platform, particularly in its ease of use by our staff."
