MiLAN Announces Managed Layer 2 Switch with Gigabit Ports

Sunnyvale, Calif., June 5 -- MiLAN Technology, a division of Digi International, announced availability of the MIL-S3570, a managed Layer 2 switch providing twenty-four 10/100-Mb/s ports with two optional Gigabit Ethernet fiber ports. The MIL-S3570 is designed for resolving congestion problems caused by bandwidth-hungry network devices, bandwidth-intensive applications, and a high number of segment users.
"The MIL-S3570 is ideal for customers who need managed switching to increase network reliability, speed, and productivity," said Cathy Swan, product manager at MiLAN. "For dedicating bandwidth to workgroups using bandwidth-hungry applications such as CAD/CAM, VoIP, or large file transfers, the MIL-S3570 is ideal for cost effectively upgrading network performance."
All Fast Ethernet ports on the MIL-S3570 are autosensing and an advanced switching fabric provides very low latency through single store-and-forward at the data entry port and cut-through switching at the destination port. The MIL-S3570 features wire speed switching, VLAN support and tagging, port trunking and port mirroring. Software routing using RIP and RIP 2 connects VLANs without requiring a separate router, while a console port provides local management capabilities. Web-based management is provided via any network device.
"The Gigabit Ethernet slots can be used to provide uplinks to other switches or high speed links to servers and backbone networks, " continued Swan, "The MIL-S3570 offers routing in software to connect VLANs without the extra expense of having to buy a router. In essence, the MIL-S3570 is a Layer 3 switch at a Layer 2+ price."
