Memscap Establishes Finnish Subsidiary For Active Optical Components
GRENOBLE, France, June 8 -- Memscap, S.A, a provider of MEMS-based products for the fiber optic and wireless communications markets, announced the establishment of Memscap Oy, a wholly-owned subsidiary in Finland. The subsidiary will focus on the development, commercialization and sale of active optical components for the metropolitan and access layers of the optical network.
The new company, through a licensing and development relationship with Finland's Optoelectronics Research Center, will enable Memscap to extend its MEMS- and microstructure-based product line to every segment of the all-optical network, including source components optimized for the growing plastic optical fiber (POF) market. POF is seen as an inexpensive means to wire the metropolitan and local loops with optical fiber for high-bandwidth transmission of data.
