Optelecom Wins Singapore Transit Video Distribution Contract
GAITHERSBURG, Md., June 19 -- Optelecom Inc. has been awarded an initial $1.3 million contract by Singapore Technologies Electronics Ltd. for the design and supply of multiple video distribution systems for trains as part of the modernization of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system in Singapore.
During the next 18 months, more than 40 new MRT trains and 60 Light Rail Transit vehicles will be retrofitted with the Vehicle Passenger Information System (VPIS) from Optelecom. The VPIS comprises several subsystems, such as liquid crystal display systems, LED systems, and video distribution systems, connected wirelessly to the
Mass Rapid Transit system's Control Center. The VPIS is an information system designed to provide passengers with up-to-date news and other events.
