Network Elements Makes News at NFOEC

Network Elements Inc., a provider of high-speed optical networking modules (ONM), announced an industry milestone in 10-Gb optical networking technology. As a yet-undisclosed member of the OC-192 transponder multisource agreement (10GIG MSA), Network Elements is one of the industry's first companies to ship a 10 Gb/s MSA compatible 200-pin optical networking module for use in DWDM, SONET, 10 Gb/s Ethernet (GbE) LAN and WAN, and optical switching applications. This announcement was made at NFOEC 2001 this week in Balitmore, Md.
This product meets the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) mask while operating over the full temperature range (5 - 70 °C). The MiniPHY's full compliance with the ITU temperature requirements and its small size (less than 50 percent of the board space required by current generation 300-pin subsystems) is a major advantage to OEMs looking to reduce the space, power, development time, and cost of high-speed optical networking equipment, the company said.
This new product is the latest validation of Network Element's vision of providing a modular approach to change the way high-speed optical network equipment is built and deployed.
