Prior Scientific Introduces New Connector Certification System for Automatic Inspection of Fiber Optic Terminations

ROCKLAND, Mass., July 13 -- The Fiber Endface Inspection System is an easy to use, complete fiber optic certification system that represents a major leap forward compared with traditional inspection methods.

The Fiber Endface Inspection System was introduced at NFOEC 2001 in Baltimore this week.

The System, which was introduced by Prior Scientific Inc. at the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference in Baltimore this week, provides accurate and repeatable results which conform to the most stringent fiber optic standards, the company said.

The System allows authorized users to change features and inspection parameters based on programmed requirements while also enabling the user the ability to program a variety of pass/fail criteria of various zones across the face of the fiber. Results can be
electronically saved or printed for easy and accurate record keeping, allowing for a quick assessment of pass or fail results.

The software eliminates all of the subjectivity of fiber optic connector inspection with special algorithms that have been developed specifically for the fiber industry. The system is also able to detect and measure pits, groups of pits, chains of pits, scratches, curved scratches, chips at the fiber edge (fretting), and particulate contamination. It is also equipped with an accurate auto-focusing algorithm that consistently finds the same focus time after time.
