Australian Researchers Teleport Laser Beam

A team from the Australian National University in Canberra has reported the successful quantum teleportation of a laser beam using two Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen entangled laser beams. The method, which was similar to that used by California Institute of Technology researchers in Pasadena four years ago, first produced interference between one entangled beam and an input beam. Using electro-optic modulators, the Australian team superimposed amplitude and phase measurements from that interference onto the second entangled beam -- effectively canceling out the characteristics of the entangled beams and leaving an exact re-creation of the input beam.

The researchers predict that the teleportation technology will evolve into quantum information-transfer applications such as quantum encryption.
