MURRAY HILL, N.J., Dec. 3 -- Lucent Technologies has supplied Polkomtel, a telecommunications services provider in Poland, with an optical access multiplexer designed for European and Asian markets.
The product, the Metropolis ADM MultiService Mux, enables customers like Polkomtel to add data services to their existing metro optical networks and to increase the amount of traffic their networks can carry.
The Metropolis ADM, available to customers next month, is an integrated Ethernet-over-SDH metro access multiplexer that enables service providers to migrate from existing time-division multiplexed networks to data-aware packet networks. The system is used in conjunction with the Lucent Technologies WaveStar TransLAN card, which provides alternative multiplexing techniques for bandwidth-efficient transport of data traffic over SDH.
