In the last 20 years, a host of wavelengths have become available from conventional lasers, and manufacturers are offering systems that can be tuned to virtually any wavelength from the short ultraviolet to the long infrared. In general, these systems feature an Nd:YAG laser operating at 1.06 µm and employ frequency-doubling crystals and optical parametric oscillators to reach the desired wavelength.
