CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, Oct. 30 -- Rockwell Collins, a developer of aircraft head-up guidance systems, has been awarded a $20 million contract by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. to provide dual head-up display (HUD) systems for 60 C-130J aircraft used by the US Air Force and US Marine Corps.

Rockwell Collins said it will provide its Flight Dynamics HGS(R)-3000 head-up guidance system, the only dual HUD system certified by the FAA as the primary flight display. The C-130J multiyear procurement will extend from 2004 through 2009.

The Flight Dynamics HGS uses a holographic combiner to enable a pilot to view flight information at optical infinity. The C-130J is a tactical transport aircraft, and the HGS-3000 system provides a variety of tactical displays to meet the demanding mission requirements of the Air Force and Marines, including low-level flight, para-drops and aerial refueling, the company said.
