Dalsa Corp. announced that its Application Specific Contracts group has received two custom camera contracts, totaling $2.5 million, to develop high-performance electronic cameras for semiconductor wafer inspection and remote sensing. For the first customer, a semiconductor capital equipment manufacturer, it will produce a custom image sensor and digital camera that will be used to inspect semiconductor wafers. The second contract, which will be completed within six months, is for a custom camera that will be "the eyes" of a sophisticated imaging system for remote sensing, which is often used...Read full article

    Glossary
    photodiode
A two-electrode, radiation-sensitive junction formed in a semiconductor material in which the reverse current varies with illumination. Photodiodes are used for the detection of optical power and for the conversion of optical power to electrical power. See avalanche photodiode; PIN photodiode.
    remote sensing
Remote sensing is a method of data collection and observation where information about objects, areas, or phenomena on Earth's surface is gathered from a distance, typically using sensors onboard satellites, aircraft, drones, or other platforms. This technique enables the monitoring and analysis of Earth's surface and atmosphere without direct physical contact. Remote sensing systems capture electromagnetic radiation (such as visible light, infrared, microwave, or radio waves) reflected or...
