SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 15 -- Applied Materials Inc., a supplier of wafer fabrication solutions to the semiconductor industry, has acquired all of the outstanding stock of Torrex Inc. for an undisclosed cash amount. Applied Materials said the acquisition enables it to "serve customers' highly cost-sensitive thermal film deposition applications for front-end semiconductor manufacturing with Torrex's multiwafer processing technology." Founded in 1991, Torrex developed a technology for front-end thermal film depositions production that can process up to 50 wafers at a time in a stacked single-wafer environment.
