Edward Cloutis, a professor in the geography department at the University of Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada, has received a $370,000 research grant from the Ottawa-based Canada Foundation for Innovation to establish a planetary spectrophotometer facility at the university. The facility will enable researchers to perform spectroscopic examinations on a micro and macro scale of such materials as meteorites and samples from planetary bodies using a combination of imaging systems, spectrometers and spectrophotometers. The total cost of the project is $950,000.Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaArticlesDxcover Raises $11.9M to Advance Liquid Biopsy PlatformGlasgow, Scotland-based startup Dxcover has raised $11.9 million in series A and grant financing to support the development of its liquid biopsy technology platform for the detection of early-stage...BioPhotonics May/Jun 2023 IssuePhotonics Technologies at the Fore as First James Webb Space Telescope Images ReleasedThe first images from the James Webb Space Telescope are being released today, following an initial release of a “teaser” image July 7, and a subsequent preview image released July 11...Photonics.com 7/12/2022Panasonic Boosts Hyperspectral Sensitivity with Compressed SensingResearchers from Panasonic have developed hyperspectral imaging technology by applying compressed sensing — a method that enables differentiation of slight color differences and enables the...Vision-Spectra.com March 2023 IssueScantinel Photonics Raises $10.5M Series A: Week in Brief: 12/02/22Scantinel Photonics, a startup developing next-generation lidar technology for mobility and industrial applications, secured a €10 million ($10.5 million) extended series A funding round.
