Cleveland Crystals Inc., an Ohio maker of crystals and precision electro-optical devices, announced it has supplied a large quantity of ADP (ammonium dihydrogen phosphate) and KDP (potassium dihydrogenphosphate) crystals for a Lyot filter that will be used in the Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) instrument on NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory satellite, expected to be launched in April 2008. The HMI instrument will investigate the solar interior using tools of helioseismology, the study of wave oscillations in the sun.
