Cambridge Display Technology (CDT), a Cambridge, England-based developer of light-emitting polymers for electronic display products used in information management, communications and entertainment, has appointed Joseph Carr to its board of directors. Carr was formerly vice president at Osram Opto Semiconductors; previously, he was responsible for Dow Chemical's Electronic Materials business, including it organic light-emitting diode (OLED) line. He will chair CDT's compensation committee. James V. Sandry was recently appointed to CDT's board and chair of its audit committee. Sandry was formerly CTO then executive vice president of iXL Enterprises, an internet consulting company; previously, he was CFO of software development companies Online Insight Inc. and VCG Inc. Since 2002, he has also been CEO of JVS Industries LLC, a private furniture company. . . . The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded Konarka a two-year, $500,000 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II grant to advance solar cell technology as a renewable energy source. Konarka, a Lowell, Mass.-based maker of photovoltaic products, said it will continue to improve the performance of the its dye-sensitized solar cell technology by enhancing the ability of its dyes and additives to capture more of the solar spectrum. . . . Richard E. Belluzzo, chairman and CEO of Quantum Corp,, was elected to the JDS Uniphase board of directors, effective Feb. 28. Before joining Quantum in 2002, Belluzzo was president and COO of Microsoft, which he joined in 1999 as vice president of its Personal Services and Devices Group. Before that, he was CEO at Silicon Graphics Inc.; he also previously held senior positions at Hewlett Packard. He is a member of the board of directors of PMC-Sierra and a trustee at Golden Gate University.
