OR AKIVA, Israel, Aug. 18 -- ColorChip, an Israel-based manufacturer of glass-based planer lightwave circuit (PLC) chips and modules for fiber optic communications, has acquired Lambda Crossing's plant in nearby Caesarea. ColorChip will use the fully equipped plant, which recently closed, to mass-produce its chips.
ColorChip said it is in the process of expanding and shifting its focus from development to mass production, and that it will move to the Caesarea plant within a month.
According to CEO Moshe Price, "ColorChip sees this acquisition as a one-time opportunity to join the leading suppliers in the area of access systems to fiber systems to the home, a field that has recently experienced rapid acceleration."
ColorChip's PLC splitters, manufactured using its propriety ion-exchange process, are distributed to the fiber-to-the-home, CATV, analog and digital PONs (passive optical networks) markets. The company said it will ship samples of its Meteor II FTTx SystemOnGlass (SOG) transceivers for optical network terminals to selected customers later this month.
