BAE Systems to Produce Stryker Module

LEXINGTON, Mass., Aug. 29 -- BAE Systems was awarded a contract from Kongsberg Protech AS of Norway to supply a TIM1500 thermal imaging module for the remote weapon station on the Stryker armored vehicle. The contract, from the US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM), is valued at $9.4 million and will require delivery starting in late 2005.

The TIM1500 program will provide Stryker with an advanced, uncooled thermal imaging camera that identifies targets in the battlefield day or night, in all weather conditions. Produced at BAE Systems' infrared imaging facility in Lexington, Mass., the TIM1500 uses MicroIR microbolometer-based 640x480 uncooled thermal imaging camera technology that is also being procured by the Army's Program Executive Office for its Soldier Equipment for the Thermal Weapon Sight program. The Stryker TIM1500 and the thermal weapon sight variants use the same thermal sensor engine design.

Kongsberg is the remote weapon station supplier to General Dynamics Land Systems, a TACOM contractor.
