Goodrich Corp. of Charlotte, N.C., has agreed to acquire Sensors Unlimited Inc. of Princeton, N.J.

The $60 million cash transaction will give Goodrich controlling ownership of the company, which will retain its brand name and will continue as a separate operation, according to Marshall Cohen, CEO of Sensors Unlimited.

Sensors Unlimited has developed short-wave infrared imaging technology based on InGaAs, which is employed in applications ranging from surveillance to night vision to historical art inspection. Combined with Goodrich’s strength in the military market, its technology will move into new defense and reconnaissance applications, Cohen said.

Fifty-five people are employed at the Princeton facility, and the merger does not mean a loss of jobs, he reported. Subject to approval by US regulatory agencies, the transaction is expected to take place in the fourth quarter.
