William McCreath has joined Melles Griot Optics Group in Rochester, N.Y., as director of engineering. In his new role, McCreath will manage all product development, optical engineering, inspection and testing activities for the group's optical components, systems and coatings, as well as electronic shutters and electro-optic assembly programs. Most recently, McCreath served as general manager and engineering manager at Ontario-based GSI Lumonics, a supplier of advanced optical components and systems. . . . Columbia, Md.-based Essex Corp., a provider of advanced optical and optoelectronic signal processing services and products, announced the resignation of five-year board of directors member H. Jeffrey Leonard, effective Nov. 30, due to expanded commitments at Global Environment Fund, where he is president and a founding shareholder. Also effective Nov. 30, Essex CEO and President Leonard Moodispaw will become chairman of the eight-member board. . . . Cymer Inc., a supplier of deep ultraviolet light sources used in semiconductor manufacturing, has completed the first shipment of its XLA 300, marking the fastest product development cycle in the San Diego-based company's history. According to Cymer, the XLA 300 is the world's first 6-kHz, 193-nm argon fluoride light source, designed to enable the volume production of 45-nm immersion photolithography applications. The company has delivered four successive generations of XL series light sources in less than three years using its master oscillator power amplifier technology. . . . OptiLED of Irvine, Calif., a manufacturer of LED lighting, has transferred its linear optical array and modular optical array series of products to global LED fixture manufacturer Traxon USA, which will continue to develop, enhance and expand the product lines through its engineering team. OptiLED says it is transitioning its color-changing products to the Traxon brand to focus on expanding its current line of colored, white and warm white lamps, which allow users to replace conventional lamps with state-of-the-art LED light bulbs.
