Livermore, Calif., robotics company Adept Technology Inc., which recently resumed trading on NASDAQ, has announced a partnership with TriStar Systems, an Arvada, Colo., maker of custom automation systems for the disk drive and media manufacturing market, to provide advanced systems for measuring media quality. . . . Bothell, Wash., nanotechnology company Lumera Corp. announced it has signed a $400,000 contract with the Pennsylvania State University Electro-Optics Center to develop polymer-based electro-optic modulators for the detection of terahertz radiation -- passive radiation in the 30-Ghz to 10-THz range. Lumera will deliver materials and modulators to the center, which promotes the development of electro-optic materials, components and systems for use by defense forces.
- The use of atoms, molecules and molecular-scale structures to enhance existing technology and develop new materials and devices. The goal of this technology is to manipulate atomic and molecular particles to create devices that are thousands of times smaller and faster than those of the current microtechnologies.
