Donald Fraser, founding director of the Boston University (BU) Photonics Center, stepped down in January, reported BU Today, the university's official newspaper. Thomas Bifano, a College of Engineering professor and chairman of the manufacturing engineering department, was named interim director. BU said a search committee expects to name a permanent director by the end of the year. Before joining BU, Fraser served in the George H. W.
