GSCoating_320w.jpgG-S Plastic Optics (G-SPO), a maker of precision plastic optics for sensing, scanning, imaging and detecting applications, announced today it has completed establishing an in-house coating facility at its Rochester, N.Y., facility. The company has installed a fully automated Citation ITM precision optical box coater built by Vacuum Process Technology Inc. The system includes electron beam and resistive evaporation with plasma ion assist to form low-stress, dense and durable coatings that will satisfy thin-film requirements of polymer optics, G-SPO said. Coating processes will include protected and enhanced gold, protected and enhanced aluminum, protected silver and antireflection (AR) coatings such as single layers, v-coats and multilayers for broadband AR performance. G-S Plastic Optics will have in-house film design capabilities for custom orders. It said the chamber configuration will also include flexible rotation systems to accommodate complex shapes that are increasingly prevalent in plastic optics design.
