Agilent to Acquire Xpedion
Aug 2006
PALO ALTO, Calif., & MILPITAS, Calif., Aug. 1, 2006 -- Palo Alto-based measurement company Agilent Technologies Inc. announced it will acquire privately held Xpedion Design Systems Inc., a maker of software for wireless and high-speed digital circuit and systems design in the communications industry. Details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Agilent said that acquiring Xpedion will allow the two companies to work together to solve the problems faced by radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) designers today. Consumer-oriented RFICs have moved to RF CMOS technology with higher integration, requiring more complete verification methods, Agilent said. Xpedion provides solutions for RF CMOS verification and design for manufacturing.

"Increasingly, designers are finding that their high-performance RFIC designs are under-characterized," said Jim McGillivary, vice president and general manager of Agilent's EEsof EDA div. "The result is too many foundry turns and poor yield." McGillivary said that adding Xpedion's products to its RF design and simulation portfolio will allow the company to increase its emphasis on design verification and design-for-manufacturability (DFM).

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions; no expected closing date was announced. For more information, visit:
