Ocean Optics, CS&T Form Process Application Solutions Partnership

Ocean Optics of Dunedin, Fla., has partnered with Custom Sensors & Technology (CS&T) of Fenton, Mo., to develop process application solutions combining Ocean Optics’ miniature fiber-optic spectrometers and CS&T’s process expertise, packaging and components. Ocean Optics makes miniature fiber-optic spectrometers that address measurement technologies including absorbance, fluorescence and transmittance for the ultraviolet, visible and near-infrared wavelength ranges. CS&T specializes in providing probes, flow cells and sample handling systems to the biotechnology,...Read full article

    Glossary
    fluorescence
Fluorescence is a type of luminescence, which is the emission of light by a substance that has absorbed light or other electromagnetic radiation. Specifically, fluorescence involves the absorption of light at one wavelength and the subsequent re-emission of light at a longer wavelength. The emitted light occurs almost instantaneously and ceases when the excitation light source is removed. Key characteristics of fluorescence include: Excitation and emission wavelengths: Fluorescent materials...
    near-infrared
The shortest wavelengths of the infrared region, nominally 0.75 to 3 µm.
    ultraviolet
That invisible region of the spectrum just beyond the violet end of the visible region. Wavelengths range from 1 to 400 nm.
    visible
That term pertaining to the spectral region that can be perceived by the eye.
    wavelength
Electromagnetic energy is transmitted in the form of a sinusoidal wave. The wavelength is the physical distance covered by one cycle of this wave; it is inversely proportional to frequency.
