Sugar-Coated Carbon Nanotubes Stop Anthrax

CLEMSON, S.C., Oct. 5, 2006 -- Just as a "spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down," researchers have found that coating carbon nanotubes with sugar attracts deadly anthrax spores, rendering them harmless. Clemson University chemist Ya-Ping Sun and his research team developed such a countermeasure strategy to weaponized anthrax, a biological agent used by a terrorist or terrorists that killed five Americans in 2001.
