5000+ Expected at Optics + Photonics
SEATTLE, June 7, 2007 -- Optical engineering will meet nanotechnology, science and photonics applications at SPIE's Optics + Photonics 2007 conference and exhibition, to be held August 26-30 at the San Diego Convention Center. The event will feature four international symposia: Optical Engineering + Applications, NanoScience + Engineering, Photonic Devices + Applications and Solar Energy + Applications.
More than 5000 scientists, engineers, manager and instrumention innovators are expected to attend, with 280 exhibitors, more than 3100 technical presentations, 70 courses and 1000 technical presentations, and top-level speakers on optics and photonics research, training and products. Topics will include emerging technologies and market trends in organic photovoltaic energy sources, nanotechnology, solid-state lighting and solar energy.
Register by August 15 to save $100 over on-site prices.

- The use of atoms, molecules and molecular-scale structures to enhance existing technology and develop new materials and devices. The goal of this technology is to manipulate atomic and molecular particles to create devices that are thousands of times smaller and faster than those of the current microtechnologies.
- The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
