Photonics Spectra
Nov 2008
In Ann Arbor, Mich., Arbor Photonics Inc. has signed an exclusive license agreement with the University of Michigan for the latter’s chirally coupled core optical fiber. The company has the right to commercialize the fiber and devices enabled by its design, which could produce high-power, short-pulsed single-mode fiber lasers.

GLOSSARY
optical fiber
A thin filament of drawn or extruded glass or plastic having a central core and a cladding of lower index material to promote total internal reflection (TIR). It may be used singly to transmit pulsed optical signals (communications fiber) or in bundles to transmit light or images.
